An Emotional Rescue
This project was more than just a renovation; it was a deeply emotional journey for the client. Situated in a heritage area, the house was originally built by the owner's father. The mission was clear: restore the property as closely as possible to its original condition to honour its historical significance and the man who built it.
The Challenge
Restoring a home in a heritage area comes with its own set of unique challenges:
Keeping the original footprint intact.
Careful removal and restoration of cladding and timber for reuse.
Navigating emotional complexities while adhering to strict building regulations for heritage sites.
The Solution
We embarked on a journey of preservation over reconstruction, pledging to retain as much of the original fabric as we could. By delicately dismantling the cladding and timber, we made it possible to restore and repurpose these materials - preserving the historical essence of the structure.
Our frequent dialogue with the owners was key to grasping the depth of their vision and the emotional weight that each aspect of the design held for them.
Methodical planning was the cornerstone of this project, ensuring the home's legacy was honoured by meticulously adhering to heritage guidelines while maintaining the original footprint throughout the restoration process.
The Result
The project was completed within the set timeframe and met all heritage conservation requirements. But more importantly, it also fulfilled the emotional and historical aspirations of the owners. The house now stands not just as a home, but as a lovingly restored landmark that pays homage to the man who originally built it.
